"There Is Nothing We Can Do"
It was brought to our attention that many TC members have been engaging in some highly despicable and overly-excessive griefing against the Horde in WoW beta. It goes without saying that such willfully reprehensible acts of unfairness against our fellow online players do not go unnoticed in The Cabal. Since the level of grief was so great that other beta players are actually requesting we remove the offending players from the guild, the IC has no choice but to take drastic action...
Sphinc, aka Chucko, and Dart, aka DARTANION!!!, have been awarded a free horse plus 100gp each and the honorary title, "Worst Offenders Of All The Alliance." You make us all proud.
To the right is an actual email that Anduan received from a member of the Horde. The next TC member who can grief a player until they send us an email complaining about it gets their horse paid for by the IC. You'll have to pay us back, but still, good job.
It's Official - Now You Can Begin To Wait
WoW Beta finally started today, and so how long do you think it will be until release? Riiiight. Well, thankfully most TC members have a current world to occupy their time while WoW is still in beta. Until then, you can still find TC pks in several online worlds, primarily DAOC and UO.
World of Warcraft Beta Signup
From now until 6:00 pm PST on February 4th, you can signup for the WoW Beta. Please note the following: DO NOT use hotmail, yahoo mail, or other free email accounts when appyling. DO NOT submit more than one application from the same "household", aka, the same IP address. The beta signup servers opened for applications yesterday, but have been extremely busy and unavailable for the most part. Have patience and just apply before February 4th, since WoW has stated that they are NOT approving applications on a first come / first serve basis. If you are part of the guild, please make sure you get your application in, since we want to learn as much as possible about this prior to release.
Call Of Anduan
Anduan has set up a 32-man server for Call of Duty. For you old Counter Strike players, CoD is the current FPS of the moment, and Anduan is heading up a TC clan for the purpose of building teamwork, enjoying some FPS action, and meeting new guys. Hey, its Anduan; how can I not take a shot at Anduan?
TC continues to slit throats and boil blood in both Ultima Online and Shadowbane. The guild has also added several new members to the Outer Circle from both UO and SB, as well as welcoming Sphincter and Snake Eyes into the Inner Circle of long-time TC players. At the same time, we waved goodbye at the retirement for one of TC's most adroit killers in anything he played: Viper Relismonne, aka Vires.
In other news, World of Warcraft beta did not start at the end of 2003; yet another reminder to never look for greener pasteurs, to accept your current lot in life, and to never hope for true happiness. Yes, the news that WoW's new beta release is now set for "sometime in early 2004" had the same effect on online roleplayers that old baby photos have on Spart's mom. Its just downright depressing. So, love the world you're in or use our message board's PM system to get Call of Duty server info from Anduan. The IP address for that server is 216.15.144.49.
Beta Watch '03 - World of Warcraft
The primary MMORPG to watch out for in the coming year seems to be World of Warcraft from Blizzard, makers of Diablo and StarCraft. Let's hope Blizzard's track record of quality design continues in their first MMORPG release. While no new MMORPG seem to offer much in terms of all-out PvP, World of Warcraft will have what seems to be a DAOC style of PvP, with several zones being set aside for player warfare. If you haven't already applied to the beta, please do so. Even if you don't like to play betas, you can let a friend use the account to test this one out. Guardian only knows these new online worlds need testing. Lots n' lots of testing, :(
Old Worlds and Even Older People
Seems that for most players, the Age of Strife ended shortly after it began. Now comes the Age of "Huh?". Some TC members still ply their skills on Shadowbane, but for most of the Cabal and many other guilds, SB was a technical failure. PS and SWG also seem to currently lack long-lasting appeal. So, members of The Cabal can currently be found in the old worlds they've come to love. Several TC murderers are still running rampant on Lake Superior, while one or two dozen others prepare DAOC toons for the coming merge of Andred and Mordred.
And with the MMORPG scene not being as addictive as its supposed to be, several IC members have been retired from the roster: Milabar, Draxelion, Aaragorn, Katrina and, shit . . me too. Perhaps some new world will call these old souls back to their computer screens, perhaps not. Under the Zambartas rulings of 1999, 2001 and 2002, these retired IC are not allowed to show up the same week their names are retired from the list and say, "Sup?"
The Age of Strife has begun...
Had to wait two weeks to make sure it was true . . . Shadowbane actually went live. Yes, the Ages of Shadows in UO has been followed by an Age of Strife in the biggest new PvP-focused persistent fantasy world to be launched in quite some time. Many members of The Cabal from several different eras have come back together to enter the fray in SB. Surprisingly, SB actually launched a full two years earlier than anyone thought was possible, :)
The Cabal will be on the Scorn server as part of the R30 Nation along with such guilds as SiN, DDH, Covetous Crew, Cult and other evil guilds. Apparently the leveling in SB is truly far easier than the grueling ordeals of EQ and DAOC. Still, small groups of TC members remain behind on both DAOC: Andred and UO: Lake Superior seeking professional help for their addictions.
Ultima Online - Age of Shadows
After a long wait where we messed around on Siege for a bit then started building up on Lake Superior again, Age of Shadows should finally start shipping tomorrow. Roughly a couple dozen TC members will be playing UO on LS for this expansion, which brings back the rules of no statloss and full looting in dungeons. With new Necromancy and Chivalry skills, along with a completely different ruleset of spell resists, weapon damage, and special hits, UO Age of Shadows promises to provide a very different PvP experience.
Several Cabal members are still stealthing around on Andred cutting throats, while still others are testing the waters of the SB beta. And finally, the IC has re-added Spart to its ranks as our UO toons prepare to glow red.
